Safety, Engineering and Collaboration: Highlights from the Campanar Rehabilitation Webinar

The rehabilitation of the Campanar residential building was the focus of the technical webinar “Campanar Rehabilitation: Challenges and Solutions”, held on 6 July and organised by ROCKWOOL. Moderated by Daniel Gutiérrez, Specification Manager at ROCKWOOL Peninsular, the webinar brought together the professionals involved in this landmark project to share their experience and the solutions developed throughout the rehabilitation process.

The webinar focused on three key aspects of the project: fire safety, technical feasibility, and the construction solutions adopted for the building’s new façade system.

The session was structured into three main sections. The first provided an overview of the rehabilitation project, addressing the complexity of the intervention. The second explored the façade design, while the final section focused on the engineering behind the façade system.

The opening presentation was delivered by Batiste Boronat, architect, Operations Partner at ARQUEHA and project leader, together with façade consultant Toni Luz. They discussed the technical challenges involved in such a complex rehabilitation project and the design criteria that shaped the new building envelope.

Representing FAVEKER®, Marco Lahoz, General Manager of the company, presented the brand’s expertise in ceramic solutions for ventilated façades. During his presentation, he highlighted FAVEKER’s international track record as the façade brand of GRES ARAGÓN, whose extruded ceramic systems have been installed in more than 100 countries over the past five years and are designed to meet the highest technical requirements for façades, swimming pools, staircases, terraces and roofing applications.

Marco Lahoz also emphasised the close collaboration between ARQUEHA, Louvelia, ROCKWOOL and FAVEKER throughout the project. This joint effort made it possible to develop a façade system with optimised passive and active fire performance.

Following his introduction, he welcomed Gustavo Sánchez Cebollada, Industrial Engineer and Co-founder of Louvelia, a company specialising in façade engineering solutions with more than 15 years of experience in engineering, cladding systems and fixing solutions for ventilated façades. His presentation focused on the engineering process behind the façade system and the technical development of the solution adopted for the project.

One of the webinar’s key messages was that the fire safety of a façade does not depend on a single material, but on the performance of the entire façade system. Effective coordination between architects, engineers, consultants and industry partners is essential to deliver solutions that meet today’s highest standards for safety, technical performance and long-term durability.
