Faveker develops the ceramic façade of the new IES Muskiz
Faveker has developed a bespoke ceramic façade for the new Secondary Education Institute of Muskiz (Bizkaia), consolidating the project as a benchmark in sustainable educational architecture. The intervention, carried out in collaboration with BAT Architecture, combines innovation, comfort and energy efficiency, and has achieved Passivhaus certification.
The building has been conceived under sustainability and wellbeing criteria, using a cross-laminated timber (CLT) structure and construction solutions aimed at reducing the carbon footprint and enhancing thermal and acoustic comfort. In this context, Faveker’s ventilated ceramic façade plays a key role both technically and architecturally.
Sustainable and efficient educational architecture
The architectural proposal is organised into two longitudinal volumes connected by a central communal space, defined by a large open staircase that encourages interaction among users, the entry of natural light and cross ventilation. This layout responds to new learning models, promoting flexible, healthy and well-lit spaces.
The combination of natural materials, cutting-edge technology and industrialised construction systems makes it possible to achieve high standards of energy efficiency and indoor comfort, in line with the requirements of the Passivhaus standard.

Faveker GA16 Muskiz ceramic façade: Custom
For this project, Faveker developed a tailored solution based on its GA16 ventilated façade system. In collaboration with the technical team of BAT Architecture, a custom extruded ceramic piece was designed, giving rise to the GA16 Muskiz façade.
This solution preserves all the technical features of the GA16 system—lightweight construction, durability, tongue-and-groove protection for the cavity, and hidden mechanical fixing (FTS 505)—while incorporating a wavy morphology that adds identity and visual richness to the building.
The vertical arrangement creates a vibrant and dynamic surface, where natural light and shadows shift throughout the day, giving the façade depth and movement. The neutral, luminous tone of the ceramic enhances the overall sense of serenity and contributes to interior comfort.
