Singular buildings and custom designs: the power of personalization with ceramic pieces
The art of creation knows no bounds. Any architectural design can exist in the mind of its creator, but bringing it to life is often a real challenge. Ceramic, with its technical and aesthetic potential, enables these ideas to materialize, transforming creative visions into reality.
Custom architecture harnesses this limitless capacity of ceramic, making it the centerpiece of modern, bold, and surprising finishes. It’s a way of captivating through singular buildings that become architectural landmarks in their cities. At FAVEKER®, we’ll show you how custom pieces achieve these unique finishes through ventilated ceramic façades. Creative freedom is infinite, and ceramic is a reliable resource to make any idea possible.
New geometries and personalized volumes in unique buildings
Ceramic’s strength and durability make it the ideal material for cladding a building. Combined with its ability to customize finishes, it becomes the perfect solution for designs seeking originality and creativity.
What Does Extrusion Offer for Ceramic Pieces?
This originality is achieved through ceramic extrusion technology, which offers wide-ranging possibilities such as:
- Unique shapes for special projects
- Volumetric designs
- Honeycomb pieces with customized geometries
- Tailor-made formats
This play on volumes and geometries gives ceramic pieces the creative potential sought for specific architectural projects, resulting in designs that integrate concepts like diversity and accessibility into exclusive architectural compositions.
Textures, colors, and finishes that differentiate ventilated façades
Extrusion allows for the creation of uniquely shaped pieces, while digital printing makes it possible to produce bold color palettes and strong textures. The uniqueness of a building is often highlighted by a façade made with customized ceramic pieces. Technology enables precise customization of the color of the tiles and the exact textures envisioned for that construction.
Custom architecture with faveker® custom pieces
Whether due to the size of the ceramic piece, the custom finish, or the tailored installation system, custom pieces allow for bespoke solutions in ventilated façade projects where creativity and ingenuity take center stage. This power of personalization, in addition to unlocking potential, also provides:
- Coherence with the surroundings
- Specific engineering solutions
- Adaptation to the architectural ensemble
At FAVEKER®, we are experts in creating customized pieces for each project. We harness the qualities of ceramic and maximize its potential with innovative technology. Two singular buildings showcase the creative freedom and possibilities offered by ceramic in ventilated façades.
The singular application of ceramic in Barcelona’s Santa Pau hospital
Some architectural projects present true challenges. The research module at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona is one of them. The challenge was to renovate the hospital’s research module and integrate it into the existing modernist complex. The visual and technical potential of ceramic cladding was key to achieving this.
Inspired by the brick’s color palette that dominates the modernist complex, custom tiles were used for the renovation’s façade. The original tile colors are faithfully reproduced and can be seen in the interior of the solar screen. This project’s design won the 2019 ASCER Ceramic Chair Award for its unique application of ceramic and its exquisite integration of a modern building into an existing modernist complex.
This architectural landmark in Barcelona was made possible by extruded ceramic pieces, glazed and fired at 1300°C. The result was a ventilated ceramic façade that harmonizes with its surroundings while allowing visual communication between the interior and exterior.
Moneo’s Legacy in Aragonia, a singular building in Zaragoza
The uniqueness of the Aragonia building lies in the grid that creates a striking effect on the structure’s volume, enhanced by the glaze’s properties, which shift in tone depending on the light. In this case, the ventilated ceramic façade met two needs: acting as a cladding for the building while offering a bold and modern aesthetic.
Aragonia is part of Moneo’s legacy to the city of Zaragoza, an iconic building and a clear example of how custom ceramic pieces can achieve an unusual result through the geometry of the tiles and their placement. The two types of tiles, made through high-temperature clinker extrusion and fired at 1300°C, serve two different functions:
- Regular cladding for a traditional ventilated façade
- A modern and original aesthetic covering the curtain wall
